Who We Are

A local painting business built on preparation, not shortcuts.

Hunter Painting Co is a painting business working across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the wider Hunter region of New South Wales. We paint homes and commercial premises, inside and out, from one tired hallway through to a full two storey exterior repaint or a staged shopfront.

Local, and accountable in the same suburbs

We are locally owned and we work close to home, which matters more in this trade than it might sound. Painting is a job people judge from a metre away, in daylight, for years afterwards, and word travels fast in suburbs like Merewether, Hamilton, Charlestown and Warners Bay. Our next job usually comes out of the last one, so the quality of the finish is not a marketing line, it is how we stay busy.

Working locally also means we know what the coast does to a building. Salt air off the beaches, hard afternoon sun and the humidity that sits over the lake all shorten the life of the wrong coating. A rendered townhouse in Cooks Hill and a weatherboard cottage in Stockton need different paint systems, so we specify them properly instead of putting the same product on everything.

Prep is the part nobody sees, and the part that decides how long the finish actually lasts.

Preparation is most of the job

Rolling the topcoat on is the fast part. The work that decides the outcome happens before it: washing off salt, chalk and mould, scraping and sanding back paint that has already failed, filling and patching, treating bare timber and rust spots, spot priming, and masking properly so the lines come up crisp and your fixtures stay clean. Skipping any of that buys a week of speed and costs years of paint life.

We use premium trade lines from brands such as Dulux and Taubmans, matched to the surface and its exposure rather than chosen on price. The products, the number of coats and the preparation are all itemised in your quote, so you can compare us with another painter on the same terms instead of guessing what sits behind the number.

What working with us looks like

You get a free written quote after we have actually looked at the job, not a figure over the phone that moves once we arrive. Once you go ahead, you get a start date, an honest run time and a crew who tell you what is happening each day. We mask up before we start, keep the walkways clear and leave the place usable each evening, because you still have to live or trade in it while we are there.

If something is not right, say so and we will come back and sort it out. When your work comes from the street you live on, that is not a policy, it is just how you have to operate. Happy to talk it through: you can request a free quote or call (02) 4900 0000 and describe the job.

FAQ

Common questions about working with us.

For cost, timing and paint questions, see the FAQ on our homepage, or call (02) 4900 0000 and ask.

  • Who is Hunter Painting Co?

Hunter Painting Co is a painting business serving Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the wider Hunter region of New South Wales. We paint houses and commercial premises inside and out, covering interior and exterior repaints, commercial and strata work, and timber decks and fences. Every job starts with a free written quote.

  • Do you take on small jobs, or only whole home repaints?

Both. A single room, a hallway, a front door or a bit of touch up after a renovation are all worth a call, and so is a full interior and exterior repaint of a two storey home. Smaller jobs are usually easier to slot into the schedule, so the lead time is often shorter.

  • Can you help with choosing colours?

Yes. We talk through colours before the quote is finalised and we can bring sample pots so you can see a shade on your own wall, in your own light, before committing to it. Paint changes a lot between a fan deck in a showroom and a north facing room at four in the afternoon, so it is worth testing.

  • What do I need to do before you start?

Very little. Clear personal items, valuables and anything breakable from the rooms being painted, and let us know about pets, alarm codes and parking. We move and cover the furniture that stays, mask the fixtures, and put down drop sheets. If access is tight or there is scaffolding involved we will tell you what we need well before the start date.

  • Can you work around pets, kids and people working from home?

Yes, and it is most of what we do. We stage the work room by room so the house stays usable, keep walkways clear, and can plan the noisier prep such as sanding for times that suit you. Tell us which rooms have to stay in use and we will build the sequence around them. For commercial sites we can work after hours instead.

  • What happens if something is not right after the job?

Tell us and we will come back and put it right. We walk the finished job with you before we pack up, so most things get picked up on the spot, but paint occasionally shows something up once it has fully cured. A local painting business lives on its reputation in a handful of suburbs, so leaving a job unresolved is not an option for us.
